2011 Update - It's FINALLY Done

The 2011 Christmas Letter / Family Update is FINALLY done. There are many traditions in my family but this letter tends to have several of its own:

  1. It NEVER comes out on time
  2. I often skip a year (did #1 and 2 this year)
  3. It gets longer (8 pages)
  4. It gets BIGGER (20MB - too big to email)
  5. Packed with humor (hopefully you will agree)

I am going to see if the electronic form will work for you - don't be shy if you feel that you need a printed copy or are not that tech savvy.

Happy Reading.

I also made several videos of the grandkids which you can see if you are on Facebook.

As a teaser - here is a remake of one of the originals. Friend me in Facebook and visit my video page for the lastest.

Family News - all the OLD stuff

I'm getting ready to send out an updated family news for 2011 and decided to re-post all the previous editions that I have laying around.

2008 - you can't click here because we had nothing to tell you
2010 - a fun year, too bad we did not write a letter.

The missing newsletters were designed to build up interest.

But some families are worse than ours. Funny (yet true) story. Some good friends make a family picture each year to send out to friends. It turns out that they've been making the picture cards for 8 years running but never bothered to send them out. So, last year we got an envelope with 8 years of greeting cards. Such a clever idea, and saves on postage too.

Trujillo Family Update 2009

Happy New Year (and belated Merry Christmas)

I do an annual family newsletter around Christmas but it does not always come out on time. 2007 was delivered the following Easter, 2008 never came so this year is pretty decent that it was at least completed in 2009.

So this year is quite an accomplishment! You can find it here (or here) or here.

The swirly image in this post (and on the newsletter) is from the Zilker Tree which is really a very tall light pole with lots of lights strung from it. Tradition is to spin under the tree and look up until you get really dizzy.

I left the newsletter on-line so you won't have to download it - there are some instructions on the site if you need more info.

For those of you that don't follow directions much - here is one more link for you:

You can always contact me if you have any problems with the file.

When I was your age...

Do you remember your grandparents complaining about how things change? "When we were your age, we had rotary dial phones. They were easy to use and reliable. Today....". You get the picture.

This is my very first blog and I decided to move some of my funny stories that I share with friends into this newfangled format. I never understood why people have to share their opinions (or their life story) for all to hear - but I find myself doing just that.

The story attached to this picture is a good example of how we may kick and scream about new technology yet find ourselves embracing the very thing we complain most about.
This is a picture of Craig Newmark (left), creator of Craig's List, and me (right). Craig's List is a giant classified web page - you can buy, sell, or find just about anything.

Well, my wife absolutely hates the computer and can't understand how anyone can waste their life away on the internet. She avoided using the computer for years (still does not know how to turn it on). Her boss decides to give her a computer of her very own and I set it up for her and teach her how to access the Internet and how to retrieve her email. In less than a week she finds Craig's List and life has not been the same since.

I got a chance to meet Craig at an awards ceremony (our Nokia software tool won a "Jolt Award" and Craig was a presenter) and I told Craig that I was mad at him. I explained that my tech-hating wife is now on the computer several times a day - buying or selling stuff and he is to blame. He looks at me and says in a soft voice, "tell her - Thank You".

Now it is my turn. I'm a grandfather and have started my first blog. What will I tell my granddaughter when she gets older? "When I was your age, we had to edit our blogs by hand - we did not have some newfangled GUI tool that did the formatting"
